Marine World Uminonakamichi, located in Fukuoka City’s Higashi Ward, reopened in 2017 as an aquarium where even adults can have a great time. Themed around the seas of Kyushu, it showcases approximately 350 species and 30,000 marine creatures, along with a variety of events to entertain all ages!
The aquarium features ten new sections focusing mainly on marine life from around Kyushu. Visitors can immerse themselves in experiences that replicate the sensation of being underwater, complete with bubbles and undulating sea currents. With around 350 species and 30,000 individuals on display, there’s no shortage of fascinating creatures to see. The “Open Ocean of Kyushu” and “Jellyfish of Kyushu” exhibits are particularly calming, offering a serene underwater experience. The outdoor “Monster Island,” close-up encounters with “Fukuoka’s Friendly Dolphins” (Finless Porpoises), and the entertaining “Otter Pool” are among the many highlights.
Marine World Uminonakamichi is renowned for its dolphin and sea lion shows, featuring majestic jumps against the backdrop of Hakata Bay. These shows have been a staple since the aquarium’s inception. During special events like Golden Week and the summer holidays, the “Night Aquarium” allows guests to enjoy these performances against the picturesque night skyline of Hakata Bay.
